Story Scramble

StoryScramble.com is a web-based word game designed for people with cognitive impairment, specifically people dealing with early stage memory loss. The application was conceived and designed in collaboration with the NYC Alzheimer's Association's Early Stage Services Group. It was also my ITP Master's Thesis project. (See video at the bottom for the "story" of Story Scramble.)

The goals for this project were to design and build an application that:

  • could be used in a variety of settings - during the Association's group support sessions, inside their future Memory Loss Center tech room, and independently at home
  • would be age-appropriate since most game sites are geared towards a younger demographic
  • would be manageable and navigable for this demographic
  • would offer a positive, engaging, and entertaining experience
  • could accommodate a wide-range of cognitive abilities

Note, the original content for the application was programmatically requested via the USA Today Newspaper's Developer API in March and April of 2012. Also, much technical help and support was received from ITP Adjunct ProfessorJohn Schimmel.
